Weekly Update For 03/14/22
Dear JMS Parents,
Here are the important dates and information for the week:
March is reading month!! Our yearly raffle for the brand new bike and helmet has started! When you visit the Library for a new book, write a review on the book you just finished and place it in the jar to be drawn at random on April 1st! The more you read and reviews you submit, the better your chances of winning!
Track sign up was opened all last week and the last day to sign up will be this Monday, the 14th. If your child is interested in participating, and hasn’t signed up yet, please make sure they do so immediately. Track practice will start Monday, March 21st.
Comets! Our “One Comet Library” all-access library that gives all the students in our district access to the materials of all 3 school libraries and the Jonesville District Library (JDL) is up and running. Each student will be given a card number that will enable them to check one item out at a time from JDL in addition to what they check out at their school. The JDL books that are checked out will be available at their school. The JDL will not have access to student information. Families are also welcome to visit JDL and check materials out at their location as well.
Yearbook orders are open. If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, please go to: YBPAY.COM and enter the yearbook ID code: 9918222. The order deadline is April 1, 2022.
Spring picture order forms will be sent home with students this week. This is completely optional for families. Picture day will be March 22. If you would like to order a package online, please go to mylifetouch.com and put in the picture day ID: EVTWHR8H2
Exploring with Scientists - FREE Online Science Programs
Description: Exploring with Scientists is an online series that connects upper elementary and middle school students with graduate students conducting ecological research at the Station. Each of the six programs will focus on a certain type of animal or insect and touch on how scientists collect data in the field. Participants will be able to submit questions related to natural history, research and science careers. Sessions take place on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Attend one session or all six! Teachers and families learning from home are encouraged to participate. Exploring with Scientists also makes a great after-school activity. Anyone interested in track, MUST sign up this Monday, March, 14th.
After school tutoring and athletic study hall will be available every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:50-3:50. Any student wishing to attend may show up as long as they bring work. Athletes will know in advance if they must attend. *Students cannot remain in the school past 4pm, and should have transportation available after tutoring.
Hillsdale College also offers free, virtual tutoring, if you cannot make our after school tutoring. Parents, you can sign up for that here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gt_3M-0U5QgJSIkgLmmWZ6X0RIjH4Jj7j1AVCFKZF0E/viewform?edit_requested=true
If your child is absent from school due to an illness or appointment, please call the office in the morning and let us know 517-849-3210.
Students who are quarantined are required to complete all classwork while they are away from school. Your teacher should have Google Classroom or Schoology set up to deliver all assignments and instruction. Failure to complete assignments on time will result in a lowered grade. If you are sick, please let your teacher know so an exception can be.
During sporting events, please talk with your child and remind them to stay off of the baseball and softball fields. This is especially problematic during football games. There is an area behind the bleachers where the students can play. We are trying to keep the softball fields from any damage during construction.
Masks are optional in school, however, if you ride the bus, they are required the entire time you are on the bus.
A list of all other published materials (school supplies, handbook, times, letters, maps) can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yaAJA7wBSfPpTcte5Yqlj55puTx0S6i9/view?usp=sharing
If your child is feeling ill, please keep them home. Sick students will be sent home and required to be picked up.
